RF had 2 previous novels in the series to set up some of the ideas in this one but he didn’t so this one feels a little ” talky” and slow sometimes. Now as you know, this is not generally considered a good thing in a novel. What this means is that this book has LOTS of talk. It feels as if RF changed direction at some point. When I look at the first book and the last book, I am not sure the line from one to the other is clear. The last chapter and the epilogue clearly say there is more to come. This is definitely a middle book and not a finale. This is a nice end to this trilogy and a promising hint to the next series.

Hatushaly is very powerful and needed for far more powerful enemies than than the simple war, and to help his training, are some of the magicians from the Rift-war saga. Hava, Hatushaly’s wife, is capturing ships to aid in that war. Baron Daylon Dumarch, now a king, is working on destroying the raiders. Feist concludes his trilogy im which the last of the magical Firemane family, Hatushaly, has to finally learn to use his magical ability to become Master of Furies (hard from Harper Voyager). Question remains, what if anything Feist will do next. I will say that Feist seems to be racing to finish this third book (he usually does a more detailed discussion of Battle/Wars) so I found parts of it’s wanting. Needles to say Hava and Declan bring an army to Nytanny that wipes out the Pride Lords and frees the people of that continent. After the end of the War, there are too many things going on to discuss. He may be the strongest Magician in the Galaxy (that’s right Galaxy) but need help in visualizing the use of his power. So while Declan and Hava get involved in destroying the Pride Lords who created the army of Raiders that destroyed parts of North Tembria Hatu is busy with Wizard stuff. She’s found her way to an Island called sanctuary where she can plot her return to Nytanny where the troops of the raid on the West Coast of North Tembria devastated the whole of the Five Kingdoms.Meanwhile Hatu has found a ‘mysterious’ stranger who has come to ‘train’ him in the use of his unique powers. The Wound is in the Endless Desert that is populated by cannibals.Hava has become the premiere pirate in the sea west of the Twin Continents of Tembria known as the “Sea Demon”. They find their way into “Garn’s Wound” which is a large depression that looks like a tear in a tomato. Declan and his mercenaries are stuck in the scorching desert of the South Tembria continent. We pick-up with our three main protagonist, Hava, Hatu and Declan. So this is the third book of the Firemane Trilogy and the last of the last series by Feist (i’m guessing unless he gets bored). But will he be able to channel his magic in time to combat the deepest, darkest threat the world of Garn has ever faced? He is able now to visualize and even travel among the filaments of energies that power all existence: the furies. Ruthless raiders have massacred the inhabitants of Beran’s Hill, including Gwen, the beloved wife of Declan Smith. Hollow of heart, his hopes burned to ashes, Declan swears to track down and destroy the raiders, an ambition shared by Baron Daylon Dumarch, whose family was massacred as they fled the capital.Meanwhile Hava, whose gift for piracy has seen her acquire the treasure ship Borzon’s Black Wake and the swift Azhante sailing vessel, Queen of Storms, and won her the name of “the Sea Demon,” is closing in on the whereabouts of those who unleashed the murderous hordes. Her husband, Hatushaly, the last remaining member of the ruling family of Ithrace, the legendary Firemanes, seeks to control the magical powers he has inherited. Feist’s epic Firemane saga.War has swept across Marquensas. From King of Ashes to Queen of Storms, it’s all built up to this-the thrilling conclusion to legendary New York Times bestselling author Raymond E.
